No stress. Returns are risk-free for 30 days, even if he's used it, as long as it comes back clean, complete and in its original packaging. Easiest swap is to return and reorder.

How long does it actually stay cold?

Up to 24 hours of runtime per charge, depending on conditions. With the free spare battery charged and ready, Dad swaps it over in seconds and keeps going. He can also top up from mains, the car or solar at any time.
